Describe your Transition/Fall 2012 collection and the trends you have focused on.
For Fall/Winter 2012, I have designed a very comfortable, warm and sensual collection with a very earthy palette consisting of chocolate brown, beige, and grey. I wanted to create pieces that will last for several years in someone’s closet; I always use the best qualities of wool, cashmere, cotton and silk. The collection has an Asian touch to celebrate the fact that I have opened my new showroom in Shanghai this year.
From where do you draw inspiration?
I draw inspiration mostly from nature, but also from the city elements that surround me everyday. When I travel around the world I love watching women at work, partying or just spending a regular weekend with friends and see how they could look more comfortable but still fabulous.
Describe the type of woman that wears your designs.
My style is quite wearable, affordable, and flexible. I think that any woman can find a piece that will suit their taste and needs. I like women that are strong and confident but also sensitive. One thing I’ve always liked is that I often have customers that come to the store with their daughters, or the other way around, and they both find something they see themselves wearing.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Work hard to achieve your goals, never betray your principles so you can sleep at night, and always be grateful.
What direction do you see women’s fashion moving in for the upcoming seasons?
The interesting thing about fashion is that there can be as many styles and trends as people; the more brands and designers that get their product out the better. Personally, I believe that women are looking more and more for better quality garments and pieces that last. Therefore, I try to create good quality and unique designs at reasonable prices season after season.
If you could dress a celebrity, who would it be and why?
I’ve always admired Spanish actress Elena Anaya. She has a gorgeous face and is both sweet and strong at the same time. She is very feminine, but not in a cheesy way. I like her subtle sensuality.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
People would be surprised to know that when I first moved to Shanghai I was 25 and didn’t speak a word of English or Chinese.
